Impact of AI on the knowledge management function of the organizations


The process of creating, using, sharing and managing an organization’s information and knowledge can be identified as the Knowledge management in business context. The main objective of the Knowledge Management is to provide value to the companies by institutional learning, growth, innovation and success. Therefore, knowledge-based business in the market are more resilient and competitive.

In traditional Knowledge management, knowledge is kept within personal folders and hard drivers but nowadays Knowledge is generated from data and technology (AI based Knowledge management) and it is automatically integrated in the process of organization. For example, AI based ‘Chat GPT’ can be identified as a generative AI rather than just analyzing the data.

AI systems are recognized as analytical, sentient or human looking, depending on the kind of intelligence they possess. For an example, ‘Review Pro’ is an AI based online platform which helps to get insights about whether the customer experiences are good or bad by the results generated in a sentient to the customer reviews. This kind of AI based Knowledge Management systems improve the effectiveness of decision making of the managers.

Also, the online learning platforms such as ‘Coursera’ uses the AI powered learning tools and most of the managers use this knowledge to upskill and reskill employees when it comes to the employee knowledge management. These Knowledge Management systems improve the productivity of the employees by learning and development.

Let’s take a look at the advantages of AI for effective Knowledge Management.    

  • Easier knowledge delivery – enhancing knowledge sharing, usage and capturing.
  • Removing linguistic barriers – enhancing flexibility of knowledge representation.
  • Enhancing intellectual capital – Knowledge based on personal preferences.
  • A real-time knowledge system – Easy problem solving.
Overall, AI based Knowledge Management makes it easier for businesses to accomplish their objectives in several areas and boost their profitability, giving them room to become more competitive, decrease expenses, tighten security and continuously offer data.

The number of works on AI and knowledge management is increasing in various areas such as engineering, computer science, business, mgt, etc. For instance, Application of AI based ‘Machine Learning’ in agriculture to improve agricultural production sustainability. AI uses for measuring the productivity in a hospitality setup (e.g. productivity of a waiter) can be identified as a great improvement of the AI based Knowledge Management.

Although there are many significant advantages in an AI based Knowledge Management, the researches have shown the companies related to construction are hesitate to use AI because of the high initial investment. That may cause negative impacts towards those businesses.

In conclusion, Study reviewed the combination of AI and Knowledge Management could enhance innovations, wireless networks, education, healthcare, businesses and organizations. The results show that AI greatly improved the quality and effectiveness of Knowledge Management with regard to knowledge acquisition, problem solving strategies, knowledge tutors, optimal solution systems, organization, modeling, etc.
